Moodboard and Inspiration.

Moodboard.

After reading through the brief and gaining inspirations from images I have been researching I have come to the conclusion that the colour I am inspired by for my images is natural metallics. I think this look will be cohesive with some of the test shots that I have done so far as well as adding to my mood board to inspire my design process for the final shoot.
The word I chose from the dictionary in Sharon's lesson to inspire my mood board was Culture.
I am really happy with my word and feel that I can produce a lot of ideas from this word.

Definition of Culture:

  1. The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively
  2. The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.

Because of my need to want to use metallic colours I have two possible ideas for my final shoot - Urban culture. Which would involve piercings, rock, metal and a more aggressive idea - a British, urban culture similar to something you would see in I-D magazine. Mood board for this idea. I like the outcome of this mood board as it has an heir of confidence and strength that I think culture embodies similar to the 1st definition.

Later when i got home i realised there were other, more obvious aspects to this that i could research. I wanted to look at actual cultures that included the use of metallic objects and thing that modified the body such as the african tribal neck braces and ear stretches. The indian trial nose piercings that connect to the ears and often run down the middle of the head. The arabic belly dancers who wear belts with chain linked money around there waists to create beautiful sounds as they wind their bodies to the music of their cultures. And so I decided to create a second mood board as I was so inspired by these cultures and ideas. This mood board reflects the 2nd definition of culture.

Here are some ideas and images that I could place into my final mood board:

The first thing I thought about when hearing the word metallics was piercings.  I think that adding facial jewellery to an image creates more dimension across the face and produces images with a more interesting visual composition.

The second thing that came to mind was the idea of shimmer and glitter. As often metallic colours contain and element that makes the colour sparkle or appear to sparkle. I wanted this to be recreated in my design as a shimmering glow. I want my model to look youthful and healthy but still appearing to wear makeup although minimal.

I was also thinking about decoration and embellishment that I could incorporate into my final shoot. I wanted accessories that would be edgy and less conventional than just makeup to create contrast.

I think these ideas will create an interesting mood board that expresses my intentions for my final photoshoot and where and how i gain inspiration for my ideas. I like the idea of the use of metallic rather than an exact colour. I don't want to use an object accessory which is why I think that a piercing will be the perfect thing to add to this shoot to add to the compositional value of my image. I also think the piercing will add an urban and cultural reference to the youth of today.
