Test shoot and practice with a male model:
After practicing with soft but bright lighting that is good for female features I decided to try low- key darker, moodier lighting that had lots of shadows that would accentuate male features more to create a rugged and more masculine picture I also experimented with these lightings on female models. I played around with white balances and 3/4 profile shots with a light on one side only so that the shadows could really catch the face. Overall I really enjoyed experimenting in this shoot and using a male model has made me think more about different lightings and background changes that I can make to suit my model. I liked using a soft box light in this shoot as it creates a flawless skin look. However I would like to practice with harsher lights on males in my next shoot to decide what works best for my final outcome.

I think this lighting creates a very emotional and sombre picture on a girl and on a boy adds an almost highlight to the features. However I feel the outcome of these images are too under exposed for how I want my final look to be. On a grey background.

Swapping to a black background. I like this look on my model, I feel as though it accentuates and highlights the right parts of the face and creates very dramatic images.

I like the idea of using a textured background in my final shoot to add to the overall composition of the photographs. It just adds an extra component that is subtle enough to not take over the entire image.

I really like this effect as it creates quite dramatic silhouettes and make the facial features quite a low exposure so it makes the viewers eye travel around the image for longer in order to understand the shapes on the image.
