Lighting Practice.

Lighting Practice.

Today we decided to play around with more different types of lighting and practice the different types of effects you can use with varied background colours, white balances and apertures. This has given me some more insight into how I want my pictures to look like. However I need to practice shooting a male to fully grasp how different lights work on men and women. As on men you would need harsher lighting to bring out the details and rugged lines. Where as on women you would want softer lighting to hide fine lines and make skin seem flawless and youthful.

Low light on one side, low exposure. Grey background. not good for tanned or darker skin, like my own as it adds a grey tone to the skin. I like how it is low-key moody lighting though.

Higher exposure, lamps turned down low. grey background.

Lights turned up high, grey background. No shadows, shows off makeup and hair well, good for beauty shots. High exposure, light heavily on both sides with lights facing reflectors to create a soft natural light.

One side lit on reflector board. grey background. Creates a shadowy effect. This lighting would be better on males as it doesn't really show off makeup and hair to its best ability.

W/B changed to 'Daylight' on grey background.

W/B Changed to 'Tungsten' On grey background. Takes too much colour out of natural skin tones has a nice hue for fashion images maybe?

Black background, High exposure, lamp turned up full. Leaves shoulders and hair slightly out of focus. skin is too bright and not natural looking.

Black background, high exposure, lamp turned up half way. I like the black background for blonde hair. however i can imagine having black hair on this background would create a less dramatic image.
