The Perfect Base.
Brief:
The theme for your portrait is "The Perfect Base" using a single key colour (not white) to set the image off. You must shoot using either a white, grey or black background to produce three colour and three black and white beauty portraits emphasising natural beauty, headshot only, from the shoulders up. The three shots are to be from the same model – featuring a profile, side and back (hair) shot.
Searching for my model I wanted to use a male. However now I have re read the brief and have realised I must complete a cohesive makeup and hair style in my image. I have decided to change my idea and use a female. I want a model with quite long hair and big lips. I envision slicked back hair to create a chic style to my image that will also add to the composition as I think the light will hit it well. I then want her to have a septum ring, which can be fake, to add texture to the image and create a more rugged and moody shot inspired by a photograph I found of the model, Aya Jones, below. I really like the image below as I think it captures a shy cheekiness while still being very high fashion and showing the flawless skin and beautiful features of the model. I want to experiment between black and white and Colour photography as I think sometimes black and white photography can be more dramatic and create a more interesting look. Based on the brief I think I might use Gold as my signature colour as I can still have quite natural and neutral makeup and gold will enhance the skin and add a glow and sparkle that will still seem quite natural looking. Especially with use of highlighter and a high shine lipgloss.
I also liked this idea of having wet hair and the hand in the picture as i think it is also quite an edgy and dramatic image that has a nice composition full of texture and layers. The eye of the viewer travels around the entirety of the image. I will think about how i can incorporate some of these ideas into my photoshoot with my model to create interesting and dramatic images.
I have now chosen a model and i think that she will fit my brief well as she has quite large features and dark hair that will be very cohesive with a gold aspect on her eyes or lips. My model is also half Indian and half Greek. I like the idea of having the cultural background somehow bought in through the idea of colour. I have bought a septum ring with a small turquoise stone which will add colour and create a cohesive image that has something a little different in it as well as just being a beauty shot.
